Yesterday we had a vernissage at Paraplyen (The Umbrella), Frederiksberg. On show was work produced during a series of participatory workshops held at the social café. Here Stine Behrendtzsen (a colleague from KEA/the design school where I teach) and I facilitated a workshop with Paraplyen’s guests and volunteers. Paraplyen is a social café providing activities and support for anyone that needs to be part of a supportive environment, such as elderly people that are in risk of loneliness, people that struggle with addiction or unemployment. We were exploring visual methods and co-designerly engagement as a way of communicating about life events and life stories. The workshop was part of a larger project where we are exploring photography, sound and poetic modes of communication as a way of conveying new understanding in relation to old age and experiences with dementia.
